My name is Tim Scherer. For as long as I can remember, I have had a love affair with anything on wheels and an engine. Like others, I have also admired those that protect us. Those that run towards danger.
Those we call WARRIORS.
Military, Veterans, First responders and their families often sacrifice greatly protecting our way of life and this great country. In 2014 my wife and I felt a calling and found a way to give back for those sacrifices while combining our passion. We held a series of fundraisers and donated the proceeds to the Gary Sinise Foundation. In July of 2017, our Home was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. We lost everything. The community, familiy and friends, total strangers and businesses rushed to our aid. We survived and we felt generosity we never imagined. From that fire I met Jim Karnes, (a warrior and “car guy” himself), who ran into my burning home as the Battalion Commander of our local Fire Dept. A friendship ensued and I sat down with Jim and shared this crazy idea I had of doing a benefit car show. No stranger to car shows or crazy ideas himself, we sat down and created Wheels and Warriors.
For the year 2019 And from here forward we will be focusing on two organizations, SAW, Save a Warrior and Heroes Night Out, a local Austin.,TX Veterans Resource Center.
I have never been afraid to ask people to help out when it comes to giving back to our Military, Veterans, First responders and their families. When we decided to host our inaugural Wheels and Warriors car show in 2018 we knew the only way we were going to be able to pull this off was with a whole bunch of help. I have owned a few car forums, been a moderator and administrator on a few others, built and raced a few cars and trucks and organized several Facebook pages. From that I have met a ton of like minded enthusiast and organized fundraisers through sponsorships of products and funding. Jim also had a background on forums and Facebook, was a drag racer himself and set up our local car show in our city. We pooled that experience and connections together and reached out to potential sponsors. The response was overwhelming. Along with the corporate sponsors listed on our banner to the right, many elite warriors reached out to help including, Robert J. Oneill, (SEAL that shot Bin Laden), Marcuss Luttrell, (Lone Survivor) and John "TIG" Tiegen, (13 hours in Benghazi). All sent personalized merchandise to raffle off.
